With poet 和 teacher 贝丝·艾莉森·琼斯, & poet 和 archivist 杰斐逊Navicky

Join us for an evening of poetry sprung from research in the Maine Women Writers Collection (MWWC). 贝丝·艾莉森·琼斯 will read from an in-progress series of poems called “We Don’t Talk 全球网络赌博平台 the War.” Inspired by the journals of Isabel Hoffses, a 19th century school teacher who suffered bouts of homelessness, 贫困, a debilitating mental illness, the poems explore a powerful 和 singular mental will that insists on its own freedom. The Civil War is the unmentioned backdrop.  

MWWC Archivist 杰斐逊Navicky will read poems inspired by his work at MWWC processing archival collections, assisting researchers, communing with ghosts 和 other spirits that haunt the past’s detritus. 

The evening will be introduced 和 moderated by Dr. 詹妮弗·塔特尔, MWWC Director 和 Dorothy M. 希利教授 of Literature at UNE.

贝丝·艾莉森·琼斯 (she/her/hers) is a poet who lives 和 works in central Maine. A past recipient of an Isabella Gardner fellowship at MacDowell Colony, Beth recently received a Maine Arts Commission Springboard grant for her chapbook, “What It Means To Be A Half-Blind Horse.” Her work has appeared in many journals, including 乔治亚评论西方分支, 草原篷车诗歌日报》 Shen和oah, River Styx, Cimarron Review, 和 The Adirondack Review.  

杰斐逊Navicky (he/him/his) is the author of four books, most recently Head of Isl和 Beautification for the Rural Outl和s (2023)以及 Antique Densities: Modern Parables & Other Experiments on Short Prose (2021), which won the 2022 Maine Literary Award for Poetry. His work has appeared in American Poetry ReviewSmokelong季度电子文献Beloit Poetry JournalSouthern Humanities Review.

詹妮弗·塔特尔 (she/her/hers) directs the MWWC as the Dorothy M. 希利教授, teaches literature at UNE, publishes literary criticism on archival studies, 女性写作, 健康的人文, 还有其他科目. She was the 2021-22 Ludcke Chair of Liberal 艺术与科学 at UNE, was a longtime editor at Legacy: A Journal of American Women Writers, co-founded UNE’s Gender, Women, Sexuality Studies Program.
